Challenge + Solution.
Creating a set of 6 icons as a narrative to provide instructions on teaching someone how to survive the zombie apocalypse.
Starting with narrowing down six steps to follow, a comedic twist was taken on these steps in order to make this project more lighthearted.
Next, I researched various art styles, and finally a combination of retro comic book style, pop art, and Rockstar Games styles were chosen for inspiration.
After practicing in this style, I developed my own illustration style and created a main character.
The final step was to integrate all of the illustrations in to one layout, which was then set up as an accordion fold brochure.
Color Palette.
Deep red was used as the background color to make the illustrations and typefaces pop off the page. A lighter tint was used for texture on the background.
Mauve red was used as the main illustration color, as well as a lighter tint for highlights.
Off-white was used for headlines and body copy for legibility.
Black was used for shadows and ben-day dots to add a comic book look-feel.
Typeface.
Headlines: Hand written lettering made on Procreate.
Body text: Helvetica Neue light 16/19, tracking 30.
Animated for the Web.
